What does it mean to be a citizen of the world?
Today in society there is so much anger and harsh reality, that we sometimes forget the good things in life, like being a good citizen. By impacting the lives around us, we sometimes forget that we might be impacting the people around the world. With new technology booming everyday and making it easier to be connected in the world that we live in, a good citizen can be stumbled upon anywhere. There is still a question that should be asked, “What does it mean to be a citizen of the world?” Being a citizen, is how the people of society affect the world around them, or what people are doing to help the future generations and even the generation of today. For example, a website such as cancer awareness can connect millions of people around the world for an amazing cause and through that one website you could globally change many people around the world. Being a citizen is about being worldly and making an effort to contribute to the global community and without contribution there isn’t any impact.
The ancient world has had such an impact on the way we live in our societies today. We tend to forget who customized a class system and helped provide how we structure our communities. They shaped the meanings of a work ethic and the sense of doing a good deed because; it is the best way to show citizenship. No matter what year or day in age it was possible for people to show citizenship. Now citizenship or being a good citizen may differ around the world and completely one thing to one person. Yet, the act of being a good citizen everyone knows and because of the ancient times and histories mistakes we have learned from and the creations of such an incredible dynasty, we found what it is supposed to mean to be a citizen the world.
Without previous knowledge of ancient history or Ancient Egypt for that matter, today would be formed completely different. The ancient world provided the way we now portray rankings of people, how we set standards, and a lot of what we use today dates back to ancient times.
The responsibilities of the Ancient Egyptians are very different than American responsibilities are today. The Ancient Egyptians had Pharaohs and Queens as opposed to having a president like we have today. Their lives were also very religious and in today’s society it does not seem that way.
The Ancient Egyptians live were centered around a polytheistic religion. In this religion the Pharaoh was the core of the family. Then men and women would usually merry very young, and divorce rarely occurred. The men usually had more than one wife, especially in the royal and noble families. The men seemed to be caring for all their wives.
The children were a very important component of life in Egypt and were considered to be a great blessing from the gods. Also in the noble and royal families, children were highly honored.
The women of Ancient Egypt normally is a surprise too many people because later on in history women lost all power. However, the women of Ancient Egypt were allowed to own property, testify in court and have business dealings. More than one woman even ruled the Egyptian land as Queen. While women were highly noticed and given rights that most of the other people in other lands could only dream of, daily life in ancient Egypt for women also involved responsibilities for most of the duties of the home. It was the woman’s responsibility to raise the children, clean the home and prepare the meals.
Most peasants made their living off the land through agricultural means. Wheat was a main crop of life in ancient Egypt. As a result of few grazing lands and the expense of meat, most peasants survived off a diet of ground wheat foods, fund with insufficient vegetables. Taxes were also imposed on the crops, which would have also made it difficult for most peasant families to move past their poor means.
Slaves in ancient Egypt actually performed more in the role of servant than slave; while other others have contended that those who were less fortunate in ancient Egyptian society were forced to work in humiliating positions. A theory shows that the great pyramids of ancient Egypt were built by slaves.

The people of ancient Egypt differ from the people of Egypt today in many categories. The ancient Egyptians took over a bunch religious beliefs and practices from their early ancestors. The ancient Egyptians believed in gods and goddesses. But people in Egypt also do today. The ancient Egyptians also believed in an afterlife. They thought that each soul had to pass a test in order to succeed in eternal life. Many Egyptians today know now a wealth of information on these practices. Ancient Egyptians had their own class system. The order went from pharaohs at the top of the list and at the bottom was a tiny class of merchants, scribes, and artisans. In an ordinary family the housewife did the cooking and took care of the household, which is similar to Egyptian housewives today. In ancient Egypt women had a higher status and larger independence than other women in the ancient world. They could enter the priesthood, in the services of goddesses. Women in Egypt today weren’t as popular as they were in the ancient times of Egypt. The Egyptians also left a rich heritage of art and literature. We know so much information about ancient Egyptian attitudes and values just from their statues, paintings, poems, and tales. Egyptians today still create spectacular buildings or statues and make excellent paintings. After the power of ancient Egypt declined, Egypt was still a center of learning and culture. It also saved economic importance as a source of grain and other riches. The clothes people in ancient Egypt wore clothing made of linens ranging from coarse to fine texture. Men wore a short skirt called a kilt. Women wore a straight fitting dress held up by straps. During the time of summer children usually ran around nude, but in the winter they would wrap themselves with cloaks. Today Egyptians wear clothing similar to the ancient Egyptians. Since it is always hot they usually wear light clothes to protect themselves from the sun. The ancient Egyptians lived in houses made of bricks. The bricks were made of mud and chopped straw. The ancient Egyptians also ate a variety of food. Their staple food was bread. The main beverage of the ancient Egyptians was beer. Wine was popular back then also. They also ate a variety of meat, fish, and food of today. Today Egyptian’s food includes their main crops such as vegetables, fruits, fish, and bread, some of the similar things the ancient Egyptians used to eat.
The typical person from ancient Egypt was a farmer. Farming was a very important aspect of Ancient Egypt; it fed all of the people that lived there. So farming was defiantly considered a trait of a citizen. Also Egypt had a strong military force to defend them. Being a solider of Egypt was an honor; therefore you were a citizen of Egypt. People also had to build the weapons for the soldiers. Without these men the soldiers could not fight.
Religious Ideas such as the holy gods, and the afterlife were engraved in the civilization since the beginning of ancient Egypt. Egyptians attended cult temples to worship the Gods. Although this was expected of the Egyptians, it was a clear trait of a citizen. Egyptians also believed that each person had spiritual parts. They believed that each person had a shadow, a soul, a life force, and a name. They also believed that the heart was the center of thought rather then the brain. These are all characteristics that depicted a Egyptian as a citizen.

The ancient world of Egypt has affected many of us today in many ways. The ancient Egyptians helped us learn to talk, write signs, and even eat. We now have a better understanding of them on how they lived, when they lived, and how they interacted with the ancient world. They invented thin flat sheets from papyrus which they wrote their texts on. We now use the same creation which is now paper. Egypt was a major power in the ancient world. Their government and kings was influenced across the land and now gave us a better understanding on how they ran things. They also gave us a chance to run our own government and determine who will run our country. The abundance of plants they grew allowed them to use them for many different purposes such as clothing, food, and shelter. From the different crops they grew we were able to figure out how to use those items for different reasons as well. The ancient Egyptians architecture has influenced today’s architecture because of the many statues and paintings created by the ancient Egyptians. We’ve come to understand that the statues showed people in stiff, standard poses and etc. Much later though, people would adopt building techniques to creating these large constructions because of Ancient Egypt
